A 57-year-old father of nine children, Phoeurk is a citizen of the Ponhea Krek district in the Kampong Cham province. To provide for the daily food consumption of his family, he has managed various income generating activities including, sugar palm juice producing, rice cropping, rubber tree planting, and cassava cultivation. He has been involved in the current business for ages and is able to earn up to 40,000 KHR per day. This is the first micro loan for Phoeurk with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. He is going to use his loan to buy cassava seedlings, and to lease additional farmland. He hopes to receive double yield from his current various planting and make more income to improve his lifestyle.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
