A loan of $2,550 helped to pay for a tractor and labor to build a water channel.

Hudi's story

Hudi is a 36-year-old, married man with two children. He is a cattle breeder with 10 heads of cattle in his herd. He has 10 years of experience in this field. His wife is a housekeeper who looks after the house and helps to look after the sheep. He also has a garden where he grows seasonal fruits and vegetables. The monthly income from his business is 300 AZN. His sons help to look after the animals.

The village where Hudi lives is located in the southern part of Azerbaijan with very rigorous climate conditions. In the summer, the temperature can reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The main problem in the region is water for irrigation and for the animals. Hudi is not able to build a water channel for his garden alone. This is quite an expensive process which requires a labor force and special equipment. When he heard about water loans he was extremely excited and applied for a 2,000 AZN loan. He will use this loan to pay for the water channel to be dug (including a tractor and labor).
