A loan of $2,550 helped to pay for rental of special equipment and laborers, to dig a water channel for irrigation of his crops.

Jalil's story

Jalil is 39 years old, married, and has two sons. He raises seasonal fruits and vegetables in his garden and sells them. His monthly income is 400 AZN. His brother helps him to raise and sell the crops. Raising crops has been Jalil's his life project for the past eight years, and this business brings him stable income, which is the only financial source for his family.

Jalil says that, year to year, the climate has become more vigorous than previous years, with especially hot summers and cold winters. In summer, the temperature reaches 105 degrees Fahrenheit, and the main problem in the region is water for irrigation and for animals. Jalil is not able to build a water channel for his garden, alone. This is quite an expensive process, which requires a labor force and special equipment.

When he heard about water loans, Jalil was extremely excited and applied for a 2,000 AZN loan. He will use this loan to pay for rental of special equipment, like a tractor, and for workers who will dig the land, to make a water channel.
