A loan of $1,850 helped a member to buy socks.

Nuevo Amanecer Group's story

The “NUEVO AMANECER” [New Dawn] communal bank will start its first cycle in Pro Mujer as a part of the Patacamaya center. It is made up of eight members and led by a board of directors of which Maribel is the treasurer. The communal bank members' businesses are varied. Among them are: selling food, selling socks, raising cattle, a neighborhood store, construction materials, hand made crafts, making earrings and embroidery.

The loan they will take out will benefit the micro-business people, including the member Maribel. She reports that this is the first time that she has joined Pro Mujer. She joined at the invitation of a consultant from the institution who went to visit her at her house. Right now, she has a business selling socks. She tells us that she started this business years ago when she saw the need among people in the community.

The loan she will take out now is to increase capital by buying socks that she will acquire from wholesalers in the city of La Paz. Later, she will sell them from her own house. This work allows her to generate income to support her home as much as possible. She is in a common law marriage and has three children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she saws she likes the lending.
