Ruth's story

Ruth lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is married with two children, and all of her children go to school. She has no additional family members. She sells charcoal at the market. She has been in this business for the last five years. She works six days a week. She has requested a loan of 300,000 Ugandan Shillings from MCDT – SACCO to buy bags of charcoal. Her major business challenges are thieves and seasonality. Her goals are to become a wholesaler and to educate her children up to a university level. She lives in a rented house, and the family has access to electricity and piped water. Her monthly expenses include school fees and rent.
