A loan of $425 helped a member to buy millet to make the brew.

Christine's Group's story

Christine's group is comprised of two hard-working women. Christine is 22 years old and lives in the town of Sironko in the Mbale region of Uganda. She is married and has three children with one of them currently in school. For the past four years, Christine has been working hard to manage her local brewery, and she makes and sells the brew.

To help expand her business, Christine has requested a loan of 600,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy millet to make the brew and will help Christine to generate greater profits and meet her customer's needs. Christine hopes that in the future she will be self-relaint.

Christine is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
