Benkadi Group's story

The Benkadi group consists of five married women and one single woman who are on average 36 years old with 4 children. They live in traditional extended families in the Niebala neighborhood of the city of Bougouni.

They became acquainted through neighborhood ties, friendship and commerce. To strengthen their financial capacity and improve their business, they joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution where they are on their first loan.

This group of women is active in the retail trade of onions, fruits and vegetables. Fanta is an example, who is sitting at the middle with a yellow bucket. She intends to use the loan to buy 15 bunches of bananas from peasant producers. She sells at the market and through home delivery, retail for cash and credit to both women and men customers.

She expects to make an average monthly profit of 15.000 FCFA which will be invested in the business and used to repay the loan.
