Nelly De La Concepcion's story

Nelly is 54 years old and a single mother of a 21 year old son who is attending a university. She is from Leon, a place located in the western part of the country. In her free time she likes to cook a vary tasty local dish, called "Indio Viejo". Unfortunately she was not able to attend a university because she did not have the financial resources. She therefore struggles every day so that her son can get a career and have a better future. Thanks to her spirit and desire to get ahead, she has a business selling baked goods, making traditional breads of the region. She works 10 hours a day and sells her baked goods as a street vendor, with a 25 kg tray on her head. She does this work with much pleasure because this is the source of income for her son. The reason for the loan is to invest in raw materials for the making of baked goods, such as corn meal, cheese, firewood, gas, sugar, milk. Nelly is grateful for the help that the Kiva investors provide to people with limited financial resources and countries such as Nicaragua, allowing for a way to have a respectable way to make a living.
