A loan of $1,050 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Pamoja Group's story

Pamoja Group is located in Kakamega South District. It is a group of 14 women and two men led by Ezina, pictured on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for half an acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Ezina joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2010 season, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Ezina joined One Acre Fund so that she could grow enough food for the family and use the increased profits to send her children to school.

Ezina reports that before One Acre Fund, she was able to grow about five bags of maize per acre, but with her One Acre Fund input loan during Long Rains 2012, she harvested 18 bags per acre! She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and buy a cow. Ezina’s group members will each receive input loans of half an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for 8 acres of maize and sorghum.
