A loan of $325 helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set and weighing scale so that she may provide vital farming information to her community.

Dorothy's story

Dorothy is a 33-year-old married mother of two children. She and her husband earn their income through farming, both crop sales and livestock, as well as running a small business. They grow maize, beans and sweet potatoes. They also care for cows, goats and chickens. Dorothy looks forward to becoming a community knowledge worker (CKW) so she can improve the quality of information that fellow farmers in her village can access.

As a CKW, she will use the materials in her business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of her village, helping them to improve their crop yields and to increase their incomes. With the additional money that she will earn as a CKW, Dorothy will improve her own farming business as she works towards her dream of one day running a successful farm.
