A loan of $600 helped to buy compost, insecticide, herbicide and feed, and to pay for the pasture's rent.

Luis Martin's story

Luis Martin, 36, is single and lives with his parents in Chillanes, Bolívar province. He is a member of the communal bank Arrayapamba, composed of twelve members that live in a community located 25 minutes away from the cooperative’s office. The region’s activities are agriculture, livestock farming and commerce.

Luis Martin works in agriculture. He grows corn, beans, blackberry and he also raises cattle. He is requesting a loan to buy compost, insecticides, ranger [a brand of herbicide], polvillo [an animal feed made from rice], morocho [a kind of dense corn] and pay for the pasture’s rent. Luis Martin will buy these supplies in the city of Chillanes, where he sells his produce.

Luis Martin’s dreams are to improve his quality of life, offer good-quality products and to have his own land. The most significant challenge for him is decreased production due to bad weather conditions, plagues and diseases.

During his free time, he likes to play sports, especially volleyball and football. He also likes to take part in local celebrations and carnivals.
