Mariam's story

Madam Mariam is 26 years old, married and mother to 2 children. She lives at her father's in the Pelengana neighborhood of Ségou (fourth administrative region of the republic of Mali). Mariam left school at the 8th fundamental year (Malien educational system) to manage business buying and selling condiments, learned from her mother who sold dried fish and condiments at the Château market. Mariam has 8 years experience and enjoys a great reputation and clientele. She often gets orders from Bamako. To increase her funds due to the concern of meeting her clientele's demands and to strengthen her business, she resorted to Soro Yiriwaso with which she has been in a relationship for 48 months. After 4 individual loans which were correctly and well repaid, Mariam is on her 5th individual loan which will be used to buy 20 bags of garlic and 15 bags of pepper. She gets her supplies in Siribala and Niono. Madam Mariam sells for cash and credit to a clientele consisting primarily of women. With this loan she plans to make a monthly profit of 70,000 FCFA. This will serve to take care of certain family expenses. Her ambition is to have a house.
