A loan of $675 helped a member to lease plots of farmland, expanding her rice paddy business.

Yeng's Group's story

Yeng, 60, is a widow and lives with seven children, in a village of the Tbaung Khmum district, Kampong Cham province. She has struggled to feed her children by farming rice, for twelve years. The current business earns her about 14,000 KHR per day, and she manages to save about 5,000 KHR each day, after covering daily living expenses.

Yeng’s group is comprised of two members, who are both female. Yeng is a third-cycle client, while the other group member is a second-cycle client with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. Yeng has successfully repaid her past loans, which have helped her family relieve their financial burdens and improve their livelihood. Now requesting another loan with VisionFund, Yeng, who is the group leader, will use her portion of the loan to lease plots of farmland. She hopes this loan will enable her to expand her rice paddy business, generating more profit to improve her family’s living conditions.
