Chandy's Group's story

Chandy, 46, is married and has three dependent children, one of whom is still in school. Her family lives in a house with a thatched roof, located in Kampong Cham province’s Tbaung Khmum district. The main source of her family’s income is farming; they produce rice and cassava. She has been running her business for almost twenty years. She earns about 40,000 KHR per day, and she is able to save about 20,000 KHR each day. Chandy received her first loan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, two loan cycles ago. She used it effectively, to sustain her family’s business, meet her family’s daily needs, and save some money for the future. Now Chandy is leading her group to ask for a loan of 1,400,000 KHR, each person. As the leader, she is going to use her loan portion to pay labor costs, for help in planting cassava. She hopes to increase her crop yield, to earn more income and make a better living, and also to keep her child in school.
