A loan of $675 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Flora's story

Flora is 53 years old, and is married to Antonio, with whom she has six children. They live with two of them, Katerine and Josimar, in the house that they bought a few years ago. She works tirelessly every day, getting up at dawn and finishing at sunset. Her main work involves sowing peas, ulluco, potatoes and grains, which she grows on her own land, located in the high region of her local area.

Over all this time, thanks to her dedication and hard work, she has managed to buy a truck, which she uses to transport her produce and sell it in the city of Lima, one of the biggest national markets. She says that she travels once a week, and also buys and sells wholesale potatoes, earning extra money through this. As a woman of the countryside, she also makes a living selling the animals that she rears and fattens up.

Now, she wants to save up to buy another new, improved truck, as she's already worked for many years with her current one. This is her second loan with Kiva. With its financial support, she hopes to make her plans reality. At the same time, she promises to make her loan repayments on time. Flora will invest the 1700 soles in buying sacks of organic fertilizer to spread over her potato and ulluco crops.
