Mary's story

Mary is 46 years old and lives in the town of Kayunga in the Mukono region of Uganda. She is married and has five children who are all currently in school. For the past 15 years, Mary has been working hard to manage her drug shop, which sells medicine.

To help expand her business, Mary has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more medicine to sell, and will help Mary to generate greater profits and make more profits. Mary hopes that in the future she will be able to increase on the capital.

Mary is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Mary who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
