Zion Group's story

William is pictured on the right with his hand raised amongst his Zion Group members. The 10 of them, 3 women and 7 men, are farmers in Chwele District. Farming inputs will be delivered to him on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of millet and sorghum. William joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2011, and he is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. William joined One Acre Fund so that he could grow enough food for the family and use his increased profits to send his children to school.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, William was only able to harvest 3/4 bag of maize per 3/4 acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, he was able to harvest 12 bags per 3/4 acre! He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to buy additional food products. For the 2013 Long Rains season, William’s group members will take input loans of ½ acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5 acres of land.
