A loan of $425 helped to buy manure, fertilizer, seed, and to cover labor costs.

Jose Del Carmen's story

José, 44, lives on the outskirts of Teustepe, a municipality of Boaco. He is a farmer by trade and the father of three children, aged 15, 13, and 8 respectively. His main activity has been growing corn and beans on his own for 18 years. Before he got married, he worked together with his father. Afterwards, he worked as a laborer on other farms, cleaning and caring for animals in order to save and buy his own tools for farming. He sells the majority of his harvest in the same community. He also has cows which produce milk, but the production is low since he doesn't have many animals.
The growing season for rice is about to begin. It's for this reason that he needs this loan to buy manure, fertilizer, seed, and to cover labor costs. The loan will help him to have the necessary supplies to have his rice production on time and with quality. One of his next steps is to have more livestock to sell milk and to strengthen his rice and bean farming to improve his income and provide his children with a better quality of life.
