A loan of $2,725 helped a member to buy animals.

Flor De Puyas Group's story

The community bank "Flor de Puyas" is starting its second loan cycle with Pro Mujer through its regional office in Achacachi. The group is comprised of eight members and is overseen by a board of directors, whose president is Celia. The members are involved in various businesses, including the knitting and braiding of blankets; the fabrication of pick axes; and the sale of food, groceries and cookies. The loan they are seeking will benefit these small businesses, one of which is Celia's. She reports that one year ago she joined Pro Mujer at the invitation of an outreach worker who visited her home. Currently she works with livestock (buying and selling animals) and agriculture (growing quinoa, fava beans, onions and barley. It is worth noting that she started this business years ago, starting out by selling sheep and later added cattle. The loan she is now seeking will be used to purchase animals, which she will acquire in the markets in the community of Batallas in the city of La Paz. She will then sell the animals from her stall. This form of work enables her to generate resources to support her household in the best way that she can. She lives with her common-law husband. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the savings and the trainings they provide in the areas of health and finance.
