A loan of $50 helped to pay for 10 low-cost rechargeable LED lights to resell to rural households that have no electricity in her village.


Josee's story

Josee is a 42 year old woman from Rwamagana District in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. She is applying for a loan of $50 to purchase 10 rechargeable LED lights, which she will resell to people in her village who do not have electricity. Every week or so, these customers will return to her to have their lights recharged for just $0.20. Josee started selling lights in July 2012, and she has sold 20 lights to date, providing clean energy to 100 people. She is also a farmer and will reinvest the money she makes into expanding her other business to earn more money for herself and her husband.
