Mentari Group's story

For six years, this women's self-help group has been working together. The name of the group is “The Mentari”. The group has 12 women members and is located in the city of Cilacap, Indonesia. The group members have various businesses including grocery store, catering, boarding house, selling traditional herbal medicine, tailoring, soup kiosk, selling refreshments and selling hand-knitted items. The group members are very close to each other. They complement and trust each other. They meet every month at each other’s home.

Heriyani is the leader of this group. She has three children. She often encourages the other members. She has a stall selling snacks to schools. She also opened a juice stall. The loan from Kiva was very meaningful to her family. Heriyani will use this loan to buy a cart to sell juice around. She hopes to increase her daily revenue and be able to meet the daily needs of her families.

The other members of the group plan to add different products to sell in their businesses.
