Holmirzo applied to MDO Arvand for a loan in order to increase his livestock. HE has been raising livestock for 30 years. He is 61 years old, but, in spite of his age, he works tirelessly. He is married and has three children. The children have already started their own families and help out their parents as much as possible. At present

Holmirzo has run out of feed for his livestock. HE cannot sell livestock right now; he needs to keep feeding it until the summer starts. Holmirzo plans to use the loan he requested to buy both livestock and feed and to keep raising livestock. He hopes that, by expanding his business, he will be able to provide for his age and also to help out his children.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
