A loan of $500 helped to buy fertilizers, seeds, and agricultural technologies to increase maize yields.

Ayuba's story

Ayuba, 30, is a maize farmer in Katsinawa Nakunne village in Kaduna State. In the past, Ayuba struggled with the task of working his farm without any inputs or tools and found life difficult for his wife and young daughter. Now that Ayuba has joined Babban Gona, he has seen an improvement in the quality of his crops and knows that the fertilizers that he has been able to access through Babban Gona’s credit have made a huge difference in his farming. By receiving a Babban Gona loan, Ayuba has the opportunity to reap yields three times as high as the national average and earn at least three times as much as the average Nigerian farmer. This year, Ayuba hopes to access a Babban Gona loan to continue planting maize and earn even greater profits. The loan will provide him with the fertilizers, seeds and technologies he needs to reach his goals. In addition, a Babban Gona loan will allow Ayuba the means to store his crops as well as the ability to sell them at a premium market price.

Ayuba is grateful that Babban Gona has come into his life and hopes he can bring more of his family members into the program. Even though his daughter is less than a year old, he and his wife hope to have more children. Ayuba would like to work with Babban Gona to expand his farm into livestock, rearing goats and cows in the future to provide additional income. He would like to become a role model for other farmers, encouraging them to invest in their land, their future and the future of their children.
