A loan of $975 helped to buy products for the home.

Melissa's story

Twenty-two year old Melissa is married to Ricardo, a shopkeeper and the father of her two year old daughter. They live together in Melissa's mother-in-law's house. Melissa makes a living selling various products such as provisions, utensils and clothes. She buys all these products in bulk from the shopping centres and then sells them to local businessmen, who pay in daily installments. Melissa started this business with help from her mother-in-law who provided capital and a customer log. She has now been doing this work for over two years and, for now, she continues to work alone.

Melissa likes the business as it generates an income and it gives her a profession, making her feel productive. She would like to become a prosperous businesswoman and with this in mind, she has plans to open a shop in her mother-in-law's house where she will be able to display her products. This will be Melissa's fourth loan with Kiva and she is hoping for help so she can continue working towards her objectives. With the loan of 2500 Nuevo Soles she will buy various products, such as gas and dishes so that they are available for her customers.
