A loan of $400 helped to buy chickens and a cow.

Cirila's story

Thirty-nine-year-old Cirila is a simple woman. She lives with her husband Romulo and their three children, whom she cares for in the house they have rented for five years. In the morning she goes to her farming plots where she grows different produce, such as corn and potatoes, among others. She tells us that her plots are several hours away walking, so she and her husband work in shifts so as not to leave their children unattended. She says that she raises her cows and plants her crops in the higher region, but that soon she will start to harvest, so she needs working capital. She also plans to increase her livestock, which consists of chickens and cows, which she fattens over a period of a few months and then sells for twice the price. This is her first loan with Kiva and she is thankful for the financial help she is receiving. She promises to make her payments on time. Cirila will use the 1,000 soles to buy animals, such as chickens and a cow, to increase her livestock.
