Originally from the Dambae district in Kampong Cham province, Simet is a 29-year-old mother of one schoolboy. With one hectare each of cassava and paddy growing, she is able to earn about 18,000 KHR per day from this farming that she has been doing for five years. This is not the first loan for Simet as she has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for three cycles already. Her past loans have helped her to reduce her family’s financial burden. Now, she is applying for 2,000,000 KHR in order to pay for the plowing fees for cassava and rice growing. She hopes to gain more yield from her current crops and earn more income for her child’s sake.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
