Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $775 helped to replace her "carrito sanguchero" (a mobile kitchen-cart for preparing fried food).

Luisa Antonia's story

Luisa is a 40 year old woman and lives in the city of Ica with her children and grandchildren. Sadly Luisa is a widow. Since she became a widow she has put all her efforts into ensuring her family get ahead. Thanks to her own efforts, Luisa was able to study nursing. However, after losing her husband she stopped working in this area.

At the moment Luisa works in her small business, which is selling food. She also sells beauty products. She works every day for approximately 12 hours and believes that it is going well for her because she is a talented cook and because she is nice to her customers.

Luisa is very grateful to the Kiva lenders as it is thanks to their help that she can replace her “carrito sanguchero” (a mobile kitchen-cart for preparing fried food), as she would like to sell hamburgers, “salchipapas” (a dish of sausages and fried potatoes), rotisserie chicken etc. at night time. Then Luisa can continue to work and try to realise her dream of having a big restaurant.
