Ofelia Del Socorro's story

Ofelia del Socorro is a 48-year-old single mother who has one adult son. She is from Managua, which is located in the central area of the country. She is a very hardworking and responsible woman and is motivated to better herself. Regrettably, due to lack of financial resources, she was unable to pursue a college degree, and she was obligated to work from a young age in order to help with her family's household expenses.

Thanks to her entrepreneurial spirit and her motivation to get ahead, she started a business selling shoes of all kinds for children and adults - leather shoes, tennis shoes, and shoes for other sports. She sells her goods in one of the local markets, and she has been doing this for 20 years. She enjoys the business very much, since it has been her way of life. She works some 12 hours each day.

Ofelia is seeking this loan so that she can stock her business with various types of footwear. She wishes to thank the Kiva lenders for the support that they provide to people with scarce resources in poor countries such as Nicaragua. This enables these individuals to have work that is dignified.
