Development I Group's story

In the photo are members of the “Development I” group. They are small-scale businesswomen based in Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This is the first loan these entrepreneurs are accessing from SMT/Kiva lenders. With this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more profit and consequently improve on their standard of living.

The leader of this group is Salaymatu. Salaymatu is age 32. She was born in Bo city in southern Sierra Leone, but she is currently residing in Koidu, together with her husband and 4 children. Her husband is a driver and 2 of her children are attending primary school.

For 6 years now, Salaymatu has been selling cooked rice. With this loan, she will buy cooking ingredients like rice, palm oil (the country's most popular cooking oil), tomatoes, fish, etc., in bulk. This will enable Salaymatu to produce a larger quantity of cooked rice with delicious sauce for sale.

In this group: Marie, Isatu, Sia, Adama, Salaymatu
