A loan of $300 helped to purchase a large quantity of spare motorcycle and bicycle parts.

Oumar's story

Oumar was born around 1980 in the Bananso Circle of Kadiolo. He lives with his wife and their two children in Loulouni, located in the third administrative region of Mali (Sikasso).

In addition to his business repairing motorcycles and bicycles, Oumar has also been buying and selling spare parts for the past six years. He purchases his merchandise in Sikasso and Bamako, then transports it to a shop in Loulouni which is close to his garage and near the road. Oumar sells his merchandise for cash, on credit and at retail.

Oumar has been working with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso for two years and is on his second loan cycle, the first of which was fully repaid. With his current loan, Oumar plans to purchase a large quantity of spare parts. He hopes to earn a monthly income of 60,000 FCFA, which will permit him to better pay for his family's expenses. A portion will also be used to pay the interest on his loan and the remainder Oumar will use to reinvest in his business.
