A loan of $50 helped to pay for low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Theresie's story

Theresie is a 38-year-old woman from the Rulindo district in the Northern Province of Rwanda. She is seeking a loan of 50 USD to purchase ten rechargeable LED lights, which she will resell to people without electricity in her village. Every week or so, these customers will return to her to have their lights recharged for just 0.20 USD.

Theresie started selling lights in August of 2012, and she has sold 20 lights to date, providing clean energy to 100 people. She is also a farmer and will reinvest the money she makes into expanding her other business to earn more money for herself, her husband Gaspard and their four children.
