A loan of $1,000 helped to buy more fabric and other materials to increase production.

Maria's story

Maria is a Peruvian artisan who specializes in the art of arpilleria (appliqué). She would like to buy more fabric and other materials to increase production.

Maria has been selling through NOVICA since 2007. This is her story:

"I joined a women's group to learn textile arts. At first, we'd create our patchwork wall hangings from old clothes. One day, with the little bit of money we each could contribute, we bought bolts of fabric and spools of yarn and thread. With these materials, we created our first pieces to sell. Today, my husband and son help me. I've taught them to help with the finishing of each piece. These days I realize that what I feel becomes a part of every tapestry where I depict my experiences – what I do in daily life."

"I would like to send you my most heartfelt thanks for this microcredit. It is very comforting to know that there is someone out there you can count on. This fills us with happiness and inspires us to keep working on quality products for you."
