Ven is 44 years old and lives in a small village of Kompong Speu province. She is married and has four children. Farming is the sole source of her family’s income. Ven’s husband is doing the same type of business along with her on their farmland, which was inherited from her ancestors. However, the income is barely enough to cover their daily expenses. This causes Ven’s husband to get involved in other businesses outside of farming season. Also, some of their children are employed, to uplift their living standard out of poverty.

With the support from this loan, Ven will add to her personal savings in order to buy cement and other building materials, for building a room below her wooden house, where things can be kept for safety. She hopes that Kiva lenders will fund this loan, to better her living situation. For the further improvement of her farming business in the coming years, Ven plans to have a plowing machine, which will make her business more feasible and profitable.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
