Hermelinda's story

Hermelinda, 27, is married to Oscar, 31, with whom she has a child just a year old. She lives with her family in an adobe house.

Currently Hermelinda grows and manages some plots of land of organic cacao that she inherited from her parents to support her family. She has been in this field for seven years and also has the help of day laborers. She says she enjoys her job because she has the opportunity of giving work to other young people in her town. She also has the economic support of her husband, who makes a living in passenger transportation.

She wants some financial support to maintain her crops so she can proceed with the first weeding of the growing season. This is indispensable to make the most of her final crop.

Her long-term goal is to improve the construction of her house to give her family a better quality of life. Currently she's going to request 500 soles [PEN] to hire four workers to continue with the weeding of her cacao fields. She feels grateful for the financial support that she receives.
