A loan of $625 helped to buy 10 pigs, semolina (pigs feed) and barbed wire.

Maria Mercedes's story

Maria is 47 years old. A native of León, she is married and she has 7 grown-up children: only 1 of them is currently studying, while the others have a job. She is a retailer, having been engaged in buying and selling pigs for 10 years. Due to her family’s economic conditions, she has succeeded in completing third grade of primary school only. She started her activity with her own capital when se was 37, and little by little she has succeeded in buying more pigs to increase her production. She then found herself in need to ask for funding because of an increase in the requests for pig selling as well as in the number of her customers. This is the first job she has had, and through this activity she earns a daily income, and she can count on established customers.
Maria is requesting a loan to buy 10 pigs, semolina (pigs feed) and barbed wire, in order to provide better conditions to her animals and to build a shed to make her pigs live in a better place. She thinks that the loan will help her buying more pigs, and that she will be able to sell them for a better price, thus gaining a better income.
