Deogracia's story

This is Deogracia, 57, a resident of Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines. She is a widow and a mother to her children. She, together with her children, manages their household while operating the business. At this time, she is working hard to continually provide income for their everyday expenses. Deogracia operates a tailoring business. She offers mainly curtains, bed sheets, blankets, and other home trappings. Seasonal demands for clothing, like uniforms and such, are available all year round. She also does repairs and alterations. Her regular customers are her neighbors and the local community. She earns a minimum of PHP 500 in sales every day. To help her continue operations of her business, she is requesting a PHP 15, 000 loan. She will be utilizing the loan to buy more quantities of raw materials like fabric, thread, and other items needed in her business. Deogracia hopes to give her children a good education and dreams to have more sewing machines. She meets up with her co-fellowship* members to share stories of her life and business every week and also draws strength and inspiration from the fellowship and from the Word of God she studies. * All CCT community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups that meet on a weekly basis. A fellowship group is composed of 15 to 30 community partners. The fellowship groups gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital, and pay Micro Finance loans.
