Maria Ines's story

María Inés is 56 years old. She is single and a mother to five, now independent children, aged 24, 27, 29 and 33 years. They all provide María with financial support. She is a hard-working and responsible woman with a desire to do better in life. From a very young age she has had to work to earn her daily bread. María is originally from the department of Chinandega, which is in the west of the country. She has her own grocery store in her house where she sells all sorts of basic products. She started the business 15 years ago with the help of her husband. Since becoming a widow she has had to work hard for the business to keep moving forward. She is applying for a loan to invest in the business as one of her plans is to strengthen it in order to renovate her house in the future.
