Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

José Adan's story

José is 30 years old and single. He lives with his grandfather who in completely dependent on him. José has had to be a responsible person in order to take care of his grandfather. He has been managing his own store for eight months. It is going very well as he has expanded it and the place where he lives is well populated. He left school six years ago. Previously, he worked as a laborer earning $5.00 a day, performing tasks such as fertilizing, cleaning, and cutting on the sugar-cane plantations.

He purchases the products for his store from suppliers that come to his home and from area farmers. He buys bananas and ripens them in his home. He is requesting this loan from Fundación Campo to purchase drinks, fruit to make smoothies, and bananas in large quantities. In this way, he will be able to sell more and purchase the medicines and vitamins that his grandfather needs to make his life a little better. His goal is to become a successful merchant and form his own family with a wife and children.
