A loan of $1,000 helped a member to purchase condiments to sell.

Benkadi Group's story

The group Benkadi is composed of married women who average 41 years of age and four children each, all living in traditional extended families in the village of Tomba, in Région de Koulikoro (2nd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women know one another through ties of kinship, community, and friendship. They do commerce in condiments, tubers, and soaps, and they raise livestock. The women of the group Benkadi are on their third solidarity loan.

This client, KOROTOUMOU, who is the second person standing from the right, intends to purchase some condiments (a bag of salt, two baskets of tomatoes, 5 kg of onions, and a packet of Maggi cubes) from Nangola retailers. She resells them locally in the village to a customer base composed of men and women.

She envisions making an average monthly profit of 15,000 francs CFA that will be used to meet family needs. Part of the profits will be reinvested in the condiments business.
