Abubakarr's Group's story

Pictured above are teachers from one of the primary schools in Koidu, in eastern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to Kiva field partner SMT, to request a loan of 17,700,000 Sierra Leonean Leones for the entire group. With the help of this loan, this group of able and dedicated teachers will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges and at the end of each month, can easily make the loan payment using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for recording the deductions and making the repayment on their behalf. Abubakarr is the featured leader of this group. The 44-year-old is a native of Kabala, in northern Sierra Leone. He is married to a trader and the two have 4 children – 2 in primary school, 1 in secondary and 1 that is still too young for school. Abubakarr has been a teacher for 22 years now. He has requested this loan in order to buy building materials like iron, corrugated zincs, sand, nails, cements, etc. for the construction of a house to live in.
