The Tièssiri group is composed of 7 women who are all married and have an average age of 24 and, on average, 2 children. They all live in traditional families in Méridièla, one of the villages in the Bougouni Circle. They got to know each other thanks to neighbourly and professional relationships, and friendships. They joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to strengthen their financial capacity so that they could better run their businesses and are on their 3rd loan. The previous loans were correctly reimbursed. This group of women sells doughnuts and prepared food.

Mah, who is standing and holding paperwork in the photo, sells cooked meat. She plans to use her loan to buy 2 sheep from the farmers. She makes her sales of cooked meat at the Méridièla market, at the markets of the surrounding villages and door-to-door, for cash or credit to a retail clientèle composed of men and women. She expects to make an average monthly profit of 20 000 francs, which will be reinvested in her business and used to repay the loan.
Le groupe Yeredeme est constitué de 7 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 24 ans et 2 enfants. Elles vivent toutes dans des familles traditionnelles à Méridièla, un des villages du cercle de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Afin de renforcer leurs capacités financières pour de mieux faire leurs commerces, elles ont adhérés à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur troisième prêt. Les précédents prêts ont été correctement remboursés. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de beignets et de la restauration.
Mah, debout papier en main, fait la vente de la viande cuite. Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 2 moutons auprès des paysans. Elle effectue ses ventes (viande cuite) au marché de Méridièla, dans les foires des villages environnants et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée d’hommes et de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 20.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
