A loan of $1,225 helped a member buy condiments.

Djefafo Group's story

The Djekafo group consists of six married women who on average are 30 years old with three children. They all live in traditional families in Meridiela, one of the villages around Bougouni.

They became acquainted through neighborhood ties, friendship and commerce. To strengthen their financial capacity and improve their businesses, they joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution where they are on their sixth loan. Previous loans have been repaid in full. This group of women trade in grain cereals, condiments, fried cakes and catering.

Diatou is sitting and holding a document. She buys and sells condiments and intends to use the loan to buy three boxes of Maggi cubes, two bags of onions, two packages of spices and a half-bag of salt from wholesalers in Bougouni. She sells her products at the Meridiela market, at fairs in surrounding villages and through home sales. She sells retail for cash and credit to both men and women customers.

She expects to make an average monthly profit of 45.000 FCFA she will use to invest in the business and repay the loan.
