A loan of $2,025 helped a member buy meat.

Dembagnouma Group's story

The Dembagnouma group consists of five married women who are on average 27 years old with four children. They live mostly in single family units in Meridiela, one of the villages around Bougouni.

They became acquainted through neighborhood ties, friendship and commerce. To strengthen their financial capacity to improve their businesses, they joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution where they are on their ninth loan. Previous loans have been repaid in full. This group of women trade in rice, fried cakes, clothing and preparation and sale of meat.

Standing in the middle, Komba purchases, prepares and sells meat. She intends to use her loan to buy 15 goats from farmers. She sells cooked meat at the Meridiela market, at fairs in surrounding villages and through home sales. She sells retail for cash and on credit to both men and women customers.
She expects to make an average monthly profit of 90.000 FCFA she will use to invest in the business and repay the loan.
