Dembagnouma Group

The Dembagnouma group consists of five married women who are on average 27 years old with four children. They live mostly in single family units in Meridiela, one of the villages around Bougouni.

They became acquainted through neighborhood ties, friendship and commerce. To strengthen their financial capacity to improve their businesses, they joined the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution where they are on their ninth loan. Previous loans have been repaid in full. This group of women trade in rice, fried cakes, clothing and preparation and sale of meat.

Standing in the middle, Komba purchases, prepares and sells meat. She intends to use her loan to buy 15 goats from farmers. She sells cooked meat at the Meridiela market, at fairs in surrounding villages and through home sales. She sells retail for cash and on credit to both men and women customers.
She expects to make an average monthly profit of 90.000 FCFA she will use to invest in the business and repay the loan.

Le groupe Dembagnouma est constitué de 5 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 27 ans et 4 enfants. Elles vivent majoritairement dans des familles nucléaires à Méridièla, un des villages du cercle de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Afin de renforcer leurs capacités financières pour de mieux faire leurs commerces, elles ont adhérés à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur neuvième prêt. Les précédents prêts ont été correctement remboursés. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de riz, de beignets, de vêtements et la prépararion et vente de viandes.
KOMBA debout au milieu, fait l’achat, la préparation et vente de viandes. Elle compte acheter avec son prêt, 15 chèvres auprès de paysans. Elle effectue ses ventes de viande cuite au marché de Méridièla, dans les foires des villages environnants et à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée d’hommes et de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 90.000FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
