A loan of $650 helped to buy three washing machines.

Shirley Nayit's story

Shirley 35, lives in the town of Soledad, a community near the city of Barranquilla. There she offers services especially for housewives, because from the exhausting need to hand wash clothes every day under the warm Caribbean sun she came to rent washing machines to make the work easier for a lot of women and also of men today.

Her idea for a business was born in 2010 when she noticed the profitability of offering this service. Her business grew and little by little she has built her own clientele. From this, demand grew for another service she offers, renting minutes. These simultaneous activities allow her to generate income to achieve the well-being of her three-year-old son, whom she dreams of seeing become a successful adult.

Her goal is to expand her business by increasing the number of customers, but she doesn't have enough washing machines for the demand that grows every day. This is why she's requesting a Kiva loan, her first financing from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with which she'll buy three washing machines to supplement the increase in her income and make her Kiva loan a successful investment.

Meanwhile, Shirley works from Monday through Sunday without rest and from 7 in the morning until 8 at night so she can achieve her dream of future prosperity.
