Fight For Shameness Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you members of the “Fight For Shameness” group. These are small-scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek a loan of 800,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for each group member in order to invest in their respective businesses.

Ramda is the featured leader of this group. Ramda is a 45-year-old widow with three children – one in primary school and two in secondary school.

Ramda sells rice, gari (food made out of cassava roots), soap, etc. With the help of this loan, Ramda is going to invest in her business. She will buy rice and gari in large quantity to add to her current stock. She will also use part of the loan to buy soap-making materials in order to produce a larger quantity of soap for sale.
