Armando Ivan
Armando is 38 years old and lives in Ica, Peru. Ica is located in the Sechura Desert, about four hours south of Lima, the country's capital. It is lauded by Peruvians as the "Land of the Sun." It is known in Peru for its frequent earthquakes (it experienced an 8.0 earthquake in 2007 and a 6.9 in 2011) as well as for its production of grapes, asparagus, and olives. It is also known, perhaps above all else, as the source of Peru's traditional national drink, Pisco.

Armando's house and business are found in this hot and dry climate. In his free time, he likes to listen to music. In addition, since Peru is known for having some of the most delicious food in the world, one of Armando's favourite dishes is "lomo saltado" (a kind of stir-fried beef). Armando studied until the fifth year of secondary school but he would have liked to have studied law. He is a single father and has 2 children in primary school whom he loves very much.

Armando works as a taxi driver and spends about 15 hours a day working. In a day, Armando can serve up to 60 customers. He thinks that his business is going very well because he treats his customers kindly, and because he is responsible and honest.

He is very thankful to Kiva lenders since this is the second time now that they have offered their wonderful support. With their continued help he will buy construction materials like roofing sheets and lumber, among other things. This will allow him to fix the roof of his house and prevent flooding from rain. This will help him to improve his quality of life and continue to fight to achieve his great dream: "To give his children a profession and to have a new car."

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
