A loan of $700 helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, millet, and sorghum.

Shitechia Group's story

Shitechia Group is located in Kakamega South District. It is a group of nine women and two men led by Monicah, who is pictured in the middle in a dotted white and black dress. She is receiving an input loan for one half acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Monicah is a new One Acre Fund farmer and is excited for the 2013 Long Rains season. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access the best input prices and to grow enough food for the family.

Monicah hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and to buy a cow. Monica’s group members will each receive input loans of one half acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for five and a half acres of maize and sorghum.
