Baraka Group's story

Florene is a member of the Baraka Group in Chwele District. She is pictured with 12 One Acre Fund farmers: eight other women and three men. Florene is standing on the right with her hand raised. She is receiving an input loan for half an acre of maize, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Florene joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Florene joined One Acre Fund so that she could gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer and to receive early farm input delivery.

Florene described her harvest as very good last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to buy a cow and to save for the future.

Florene’s group members will each receive input loans of half an acre during the 2013 Long Rains season. In total, they will receive inputs for six acres of maize, millet, and sorghum.
