A loan of $4,425 helped a member to buy building materials to refurbish his family’s dwelling house.

Moses' Group's story

Pictured here are secondary school teachers in the town of Waterloo, near Sierra Leone’s capital city of Freetown. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org based in the northern city of Makeni, to request a loan of 19,100,000 Leones for the entire group. With the help of this loan, each of these teachers will be able to meet his immediate and most pressing needs. And at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf. Moses is the featured leader of this group of teachers. He is a native of Gbendembu village, in northern Sierra Leone. The 53-year-old is married to a teacher, and the couple has four children. Moses has served in the teaching profession for 28 years now. He has requested this loan in order to buy building materials to refurbish his family’s dwelling house.
