Mariam's story

Mariam is 40 years old, a resident of Kinaawa, a slum area in the city. She is married and has two children, who attend school. Mariam operates a poultry farm, on a small scale. Mariam applied for a loan of UGX 3,000,000 to acquire feed and also expand the poultry farm, which she started in 2008. Mariam’s customers are restaurants, chicken roasters and the neighbors. Mariam is faced with challenges of inadequate capital, diseases that affect her birds, highly increased prices of poultry feed, and inflation in the market, and with competitors who sell chicken at cheaper prices. She is a hard-working woman who is very aggressive and has the capacity of working and growing to a larger scale if she gets enough capital.
